We head downstairs and find ourselves face Haephaestus’ lich with Caulkin’s mother and Glittr’s father being held prisoner. In the room we see a staff pulling in cracking energy from Elena and Richester. In front of us also lies the two undead creatures who we followed down the stairs.
A tough battle ensues with the party as the lich blasts us repeatedly with paralyzing rays, necrotic blasts, ray of frosts, and purple necrotic energy tethers. After being revived by Pearl, Caulkin stands up and stabs the Lich through its heart with him Kemlevor Dagger, imbued with the power of a red dragon. As the dagger is in its chest, he says, “Thank you for your service. I’ll see you again in my phylactery, darling.”
We gather this creature is likely off to regain its material body, just as it threatened.
Future: dispel magic was effective on the tether
The crackling beams of energy stop shooting from staff to Elena and Richester. We heal them briefly as the awaken, each embracing Caulkin and Glittr respectively.
Elena speaks to Caulkin, guessing that she’s been lost for quite some time based on the fact that the last time she saw him was at 8 years old. The last thing she remembers was fighting alongside Larael and his father/her husband. She points out the glowing #5 on his chest, knowing that he has carried on his father’s legacy. She says that they were chasing down a lead about a Lich in the area, they being Elena, Elena’s husband, Larael, and Larael’s husband Blackstaff, when they were oventaken. Caulkin places the Amulet of Proof against Detection and Location around her neck, tears rolling down his face.
Elena becomes visibly happy when Brylwynn tells her that Larael is still alive. She confirms that Larael is good-aligned and fought hard against the Lich.
At the same time, Richster and Glittr catch up and speak. Glittr asks where his father had been and how he ended up here. Richster states that he become outmatched from the demonic entities, the Rakasha and Erinyes, the same ones that we came in contact with. Richster doesn’t remember much what happened between Silverymoon and now because of what happened when he was Feebleminded. Everything he shares with Glittr, aligns with the story and goingson we have come against or come across.
Meanwhile, Pearl and Baptiste examine the staff in the back of the room that once spewed out necrotic tethers to Richster and Elena. The altar here is an altar for The Raven Queen. Pearl tries to cast identify on the staff and after she touches it, a breeze fills the room as the familiar Robe of the Raven Queen appears over the altar. She speaks saying that Pearl has freed The Raven Queen’s staff, finally freeing her. She offers Pearl the Staff. She warns us that Haephaestus is gaining power and we need to activate the final shards. She shows us a portal, showing us the Shadowfell and the chains that bind
Staff of the Divine Pactkeeper, a +3 staff with an action to regain 1 warlock spell slot when holding and attuned to the rob. Resets on long rest. Once per day, it can cast the Heal spell. One per day, it can cast resurrection, however, once a creature has been resurrected from it, it can’t be targeted again. She reveals that this is the sister weapon to the one that Fey is carrying.
She warms us that our actions are drawing the eyes of other deities. It appears that even now, Lliira is impressed, as she says that his maul is glowing as it is strapped to his back.
Elena speaks with Caulkin again. She states that her time in the field is coming to an end, and she is giving up the fight to the next generation. She pulls out another dagger that looks similar to the one Caulkin already has. She reveals that these daggers are a fated pair. As she places the dagger in his hand, the burning 1 leaves her chest and is now present on Caulkin’s chest. He is now the primary Herald Assassin of Kelemvor. The two daggered turn into beautiful Emerald Daggers, one says “Justice” and one says “Balance,” aligned with Kelemvor’s testaments.
These require attunement, The Twin Daggers of Kelemvor. They are +3 daggers. The Balance Dagger can use a bonus action of 1d8 radiant damage. The other dagger allows him to cast Greater Invisibility once per day. They are +3 to hit and +3 damage.
She pulls out one Magical Crossbow bolt and hands it to Caulkin, stating that this is a gift from her to him. This bow magically returns to the bow after being shot, but offers a reliable source of magical damage.
We teleport ourselves back to Waterdeep to the summoning circle.
