We plan our next steps heading into Sigil. We remember the rules we must follow told to us by Krowen: no weapons drawn, bloodshed, or lying.
In the morning before we leave our house, Brlywynn sees Kai taking the 3 gold coins to heart and he is doing extra circles around our house as he keeps watch on it for us. We all breathe and gather ourselves. In the home, we feel a cool chills as Pearl Notices the visage of the Raven Queen appear. She is there to deliver a message to all of us. It comes across as feelings and emotions. We’re met with waves or stress and panic, feelings that we don’t normally get from her. Know that with 6 Shadow Shards activated, Hephaestus is almost as full power. We are on our way to release the 7th Shadow Shard, and once we do, Hephaestus will be released.
Pearl feels this strong band of magic energy between the two of them. This is due to her cleric guidance and her warlock abilities with Jaerynos.
Pearl is absorbing this worry, but she is sending back confidence with how strong and powerful our party has become.
Pearl feels back this strength and confidence in The Raven Queen’s resolve. The Raven Queen then shares that while their bond has strengthened, she can no longer feel her connection with Fey. Down in the Abyss and Shadowfell, things are getting worse by the hour. While she doesn't feel a bond with Fey, she feels a connection with Fey’s sword, which is an instrument of hers.
The Raven Queen also shares that she lost her spot at The Citadel, which Hephaestus took over, and this is how he is going to try to move into the Material Plane.
We make our way to Castle Waterdeep and meet with Krowen. He states that he has the sigils that will teleport us to Sigil. Someone from Sigil reached our to him and gave him the runes for us to teleport there, but he doesn’t know who gave him the runes. He begins enchanting using Teleport.
We know what Interplanar teleport feels like having just gone to the nine hells (Avernus), and it doesn’t feel like we’ve teleported into a different plane. We find ourselves in a temple, or a giant house of worship. It is large with stone walls, with runes and sigils carved all over the walls. There is a large door behind us, that is carved out of stone, with sunlight streaming in from the outside.
Krowen states that the runes would only bring us to the portal, but not to Sigil itself.
RC checks the room for danger and doesn't see any, while Glittr can only recognize the runes and sigils as having an arcane nature, not a religious one. RC goes and looks through the doorway and she sees two figures. He sees a giant and a dragon.
The two of them are not fighting, and they appear to be communicating with one another. It is not a chromatic dragon, so it must be a metallic one.
Pearl and Caulkin decide to stay back in the room. Baptiste and Brylwynn join RC and Glittr to go out and talk to the dragon and giant. RC knows that metallic dragons are usually good-aligned, which is reassuring.
As we approach, we see that the dragon is a brass dragon. We say hello and we all size up each other for a brief moment. After that we recognize the giant as Zephyros and the dragon as Felgolos, who we met on Zephyros’ floating castle.
Zephyros reminds us that he’s been here doing research, just as he told us he would be doing since the last time we saw him.
Zephyros shares that the runes the creature gave them are all over the walls of the temple room, but they don’t know what to do with them. Krowen says that he was the one who reached out to the two of them originally.
The runes in the room are the same that got us here via teleportation.
Pearl takes a look at the runes again and sees they are written in various language scripts. There’s a draconic script, one in infernal, one in celestial
Draconic is a lone script - Pearl
There is primordial - Pearl
There is celestial - Glittr
There is a second infernal abyssal, one - RC
Dwarvish - Baptiste and Brylwynn
Pearl gets the sense that it makes sense for these runes to open a portal to Sigil, a meeting place of the planes. Pearl recognizes that the Sylvan rune is missing here; something representing the Fae.
Felgolos asks us if the queen of the Feywild gave us items, to which we say yes.
After a long time of thinking back, we recalls that we have a Crystalized Butterfly previously given to us to teleport back to the Feywild.
We hand it over to Krowen who then inscribes the missing rune from one on the Crystalized Butterfly. He hands us a Scroll of Teleport to help us leave the Abyss. We hand this scroll over to Brylwynn as she can cast it without making a check.
Once Zephyros finished inscribing the last rune, all of them begin glowing.
In the rocks, we see a slit open with a blue, almost TV-like static opening. A large portal creature appears in front of us.
The Creature begins talking to us in an almost robotic-like voice. “Lie to me to draw your weapon and you will be met with death.”
The creature then asks us what we want to do in Sigil. Why we want to go to The Abyss, and then what we hope to accomplish there.
After our final answer, the creature says, “That is what the Lady of Pain Anticipated. You may enter.”
All you need to do to enter the portal is reach out and touch it.
Krowen, Zephyros, and Felgolos say their goodbyes as we prepare to enter the portal.
Caulkin uses this moment to ask Krowen for forgiveness after his past lies.
One by one, we touch the portal and are teleported through time and space between the planes as we enter Sigil.
We find ourselves in an Infinite Staircase, not a city.
We see a variety of blotches along the staircase in each direction. We aren’t sure of what they are, and as the name suggests, we see no end and no beginning. We also see the Portal Creature in the center of the helix spiral. It is floating at level with us. He warns us that the Infinite Staircase will test us as it was meant for gods.
A Warning from the Raven Queen:
Before leaving, the Raven Queen appeared to Pearl, warning that with six shards active, Hephaestus is near full power, and the seventh shard will release him. She admitted she has lost Fey, feels only her sword, and has been driven from her own Citadel.
The Portal Chamber Discovered:
Krowen teleported us not to Sigil, but to a rune-covered temple that served as a gateway. Outside, RC and Glittr found Zephyros and the brass dragon Felgolos, who had been studying the same runes.
Solving the Runes:
We realized the portal required all planar scripts, but the Fey rune was missing. Using Titania’s crystallized butterfly, Krowen and Zephyros completed the circle and activated the gateway.
Judged by the Gatekeeper:
A portal creature appeared, forbidding lies or violence, and questioned our purpose in Sigil and the Abyss. After we answered truthfully, it granted us passage by the will of the Lady of Pain.
Into the Infinite Staircase:
We said our goodbyes, Caulkin asked Krowen’s forgiveness, and we entered the portal. Instead of a city, we arrived on the Infinite Staircase, warned that this realm was built to test even gods.
